Our Standard

Verified, or We Leave It Out

This industry repeats a lot of numbers that nobody can source. We went looking for the originals.

✔ What We Publish

  • Bureau of Labor Statistics occupational data, labeled with its 2024 reference year
  • Google's own published documentation on Local Services Ads and local ranking
  • IRS Form 5695 instructions on the expiration of federal energy credits
  • Department of Energy Program Notice 26-2 on rebate program changes
  • Department of Labor apprenticeship regulations at 29 CFR § 29.5
  • The ACCA / Farmington study of 1,000+ HVACR contractors
  • Clear Seas Research survey data on maintenance agreements, with its date shown

✘ What We Refused to Repeat

  • The two enormous technician shortage figures — neither traces to an original study
  • "Industry standard" gross margin and overhead percentages with no disclosed methodology
  • Service agreement retention rates and business valuation multiples sourced only from firms selling those services
  • HVAC-specific cost-per-lead figures — no credible independent source exists
  • Technician spiff and commission percentages presented as benchmarks
  • SEO timeline promises — Google publishes none
Why This Matters to You

If a number in your sales presentation cannot be sourced, it is a liability at a kitchen table. If a benchmark in your business plan cannot be sourced, it is a decision built on sand. We would rather hand you a smaller number you can defend than a bigger one you cannot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are these HVAC resources free?

Yes. Every guide and framework on this site is free to read, with no email address, no form, and no login required. The two calculators are free too — they just ask for a quick form first so we can send you the results and keep the tools worth building. If you want help implementing what any of it describes, that is what the free 30-minute Clarity Call is for.

Who writes these guides?

Leonard Jordan, founder of JordanWORX HVAC Business Builders. Leonard started an HVAC company from scratch in 1993 and spent 34+ years building, running, repairing, scaling and selling HVAC businesses. Every framework here came out of real operations with real payroll — not a classroom.

How current is the information?

Every guide was researched and verified in July 2026 against primary sources — Google's own documentation, IRS instructions, Department of Energy program notices, Bureau of Labor Statistics data, Department of Labor regulations, and published industry studies. Where we could not verify a widely repeated statistic, we say so and leave it out rather than repeating it. Several commonly cited industry numbers did not survive that test.
